 What is the Mission Cy-Fair After-School Program?
The after-school program (called “The Bridge” or “El Puente”), was developed by Mission Cy-Fair, in collaboration with Nehemiah Ministries. The purpose of The Bridge/El Puente is to partner with parents, school teachers and administration, and the community to enhance the children's educational experience. Mission Cy-Fair has volunteers from various Cy-Fair churches working alongside the children and families at The Lake and Timberwalk apartments.
What does it look like?
The owner of two properties on Timber Creek Place Drive, donated (free of charge) to Mission Cy-Fair, a two-bedroom apartment for the purpose of developing an after-school program. The Bridge/El Puente is staffed by volunteers from various churches and is open Monday through Friday from 4:00 to 6:30 p.m. for children who reside in the apartments. Children get a snack, participate in praise and worship, and are given tutorial help each afternoon. The after-school program is a whole family initiative which has specific programs for the parents of the children participating in the program.
Who can volunteer for The Bridge/El Puente?
Anyone high school age or older who enjoys working with children age kindergarten through fifth grade can submit an application to volunteer at the after-school program. (Middle School volunteers need to be accompanied by an adult.) Volunteer opportunities are available any day Monday through Friday from 4:00 to 6:30 p.m., or for our homework time 5:15 to 6:30 p.m. Please read the Apartment Volunteer Guidelines and fill out our volunteer application form and the background check (each volunteer must have a background check) and submit them to:
