Our journey as a group of Christians began very simply. We asked ourselves ”If we were to really impact lives in our community what would that look like?” As we began to explore that idea, we felt called to be strategic and not just commit to ineffective charity or short-term projects. Our first step was to begin to research the needs of the Cy-Fair community. We discovered that while we live in a wonderful area, for a community of this size we are under-resourced. Next, we began to look at the assets in the community that could change that reality. We discovered a well-intentioned, well-informed school district, many churches with gifted individuals, and dedicated individuals in the community eager to explain some of the issues they face. Finally, we quickly realized that in order to evoke long-term change, it is necessary to educate, equip and mobilize individuals to be effective, and to encourage ministries to empower every community member to use their skills to make Cy-Fair a better place.
We embraced the idea that a Christian Community Development Corporation (CCDC) was the best approach to meet the needs of our community. This model, taught by the Christian Community Development Association (CCDA), is being successfully used by other churches and ministries across the country. The mission of the CCDA is to inspire, train, and connect Christians who seek to bear witness to the Kingdom of God by reclaiming and restoring under-resourced communities. The philosophies and values of this organization matched our vision to see long-term community development in Cy-Fair. Out of our research and relationships, a vision was born to establish a CDC based non-profit, run by a board of directors, seeking to see God's best lived out in Cy-Fair. This vision became a reality in the form of Mission Cy-Fair.
Mission Cy-Fair is organized in such a way that Lifepath Church will serve as its anchor church. The purpose of the anchor church is to ensure it is firmly established and maintains a solid foundation. This ministry will also partner with many other churches as the task of working to improve our community is one that will absolutely require all Christians uniting within the larger body of Christ. Our goal is to see a holistic expression of the gospel reach a whole community. We believe this will be a realized when we all seek to be the hands and feet of Jesus to love our neighbors.
