Community Action Network Meeting
Want to learn about how to be more involved in the community? Once a month MCF hosts a speaker and small groups to educate and discuss issues that effect Cy-Fair such as homelessness, prison ministry, domestic abuse, school partnerships, apartment ministry, after-school programing, and much more. Come discuss all these topics and hear from our featured speaker for February on adults with disabilities...
In 1983, a group of parents of young adults with disabilities joined forces. These visionaries founded Reach Unlimited on the belief that all people, including those with intellectual and developmental disabilities, have the capacity for growth and development based on their own unique combination of abilities. They wanted to create a place where their adult children could go to live, learn, and earn. A safe and secure place that encouraged independence and personal development. A place that would be there for their child when they were no longer here.

Book Recommendation
This month we’d like to refer back to a book we recommended several months ago entitled When Helping Hurts. Have you ever wondered if what you’re doing is really helping? Is our outreach doing more harm than good? To ourselves as much as to those we want to help? This book moves from foundational concepts about poverty (Who are the poor?), to principles (Should we do relief, rehabilitation, or development?), to strategies (How can we help the poor domestically?) When Helping Hurts guides you toward a true understanding of poverty and a plan to make a difference.
After-School Program Volunteers Needed
One of our teens in the apartment presented about ROTC to our After-School Program kids this past month. At Mission Cy-Fair one of the amazing things about our programs is we are so relational that the participants start raising up to be a part of our leadership. What a great example to see our teens positively influencing the next generation. If you would like to be a part of this process and share your profession, hobby or passion to our kids on any Friday for enrichment from 5:30- 6:30pm you can contact Rita Ross at 281.855.0151 or rita.ross@missioncyfair.org
ESL Class/Bible Study Volunteers Needed
Our classes are offered every Saturday and we have the following needs.
- interpreter for ESL 10:00am to 11:30am
- interpreter for a Bible study 11:30am to 12:15pm
- help with childcare from 10am to 12:30pm
This is a great opportunity for students to gain community service hours or a small group to get involved. Anyone interested in helping with the ESL classes, bible study, or helping with students children during classes should contact Susan Nichols at 281.855.0151 or susan.nichols@missioncyfair.org

Loving Your Neighbor Prayer Tours
A Prayer Tour is a means of introducing small groups, businesses or organizations to several specific needs of Cy-Fair and how they can connect to the community. Through extensive research, we have identified 5 specific areas of need and we drive your group to sites representative of each of those needs. We discuss each area with you and how your group can get involved. This is a great experience for all ages, especially youth! If you are interested in scheduling a prayer tour, contact Stan Stevenson at 713.826.6816 or stan.stevenson@missioncyfair.org.

IFI Prison Mentoring Ministry
Over the next several months a number of inmates that Daniel De Jesus is currently mentoring are due to be released from the Carol Vance and Jester 3 Units and will be reentering society. They have been involved in an 18-month program designed to help their re-entry into society be as seamless as possible. However, there are ways we can help them in this process. These guys will be staying in a half-way house and will be trying to find employment. They will need work clothes, shoes, underwear, toiletries, and canned food among other items. Daniel has suggested donations be in the form of a Walmart gift card. This will allow the men to purchase items that they need in the proper size and appropriate for their specific need. Please keep these men in your prayers as they transition. If you are a member of a small group that would like to partner with one or more of these men in their journey you can contact Daniel DeJesus at 281.352.2894 or onlyonelovejc@gmail.com.
Shield Bearer
On February 25, they will be hosting a free couples event for premarital couples. Also, on March 3, First Metropolitan Church will be hosting Shield Bearer’s premarital couples event. Both are on Saturdays from 8:30am-5:30pm and couples are asked to call 281.894.7222 to pre-register.
In addition, Shield Bearer is hosting a support group for the widowed Mondays from 10:00-11:15am. If you are widowed or lost your partner and are looking for a grief support group with others who know what you are going through, this is the place (”widowed” to us means anyone who has lost their spouse or partner). The purpose is to provide a support system for the widowed, a place to listen to the experiences and stories of others that have also lost a spouse, and a place to grieve in a healthy way. This is a place to meet new people and build new relationships with those who know what you are going through. All sessions meet at 12345 Jones Rd., Ste 285; Houston 77070.
